Walking through the Flint Hills in the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, we crossed the ridge line to find bison standing on the pathway. All of the warnings from the ranger and the signage ran through our heads reminding us that the bison are wild, unpredictable, and best kept at a distance. Also running through my head was what it must have been like to see millions of them on the prairie. Something we’ll never see, yet fascinating to think about.
